Incident Today in Pawtucket

Posted Date: 02/16/26 (09:30 PM)

Dear Uxbridge Community,

It is hard to believe that we are sharing a message after yet another senseless act of violence, particularly one in close proximity.

First, I want to be clear that there were no students in our community or who participate in our hockey cooperative present at today's incident in Pawtucket. Our team competes with Northbridge, and while I understand the confusion because of the team name that reached the news, the incident today took place at a game involving a Rhode Island Interscholastic League hockey program that is supported by many schools in close geography to us, including Smithfield, North Smithfield, Johnston, and North Providence. The hockey community is particularly close-knit, and I'm sure that there are some of our students and families connected to today's game. I had a few people reach out wondering if this were our coop, because of the "Blackstone Valley Hockey" moniker. It is not, however, affiliated with our team.

The school is closed this week, but if people are in need of support, I do urge you to reach out. Incidents like this can certainly bring out a variety of emotions or be unsettling, particularly where we have had our share of recent difficulties.

In the meantime, we shall keep our hearts, thoughts, and prayers with all those affected by what unfolded today in Pawtucket.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael D. Rubin
Principal
